Which Roofing Dumpster Size Is Best Your Project?
Roofing contractors use a standard of measure referred to as a “square” when they measure the total area of a customers roof. One roof “square” is the equivalent to 100 square feet of surface area on the roof. So a 2300 square foot roof would be 23 square.
It’s important to know this measurement when ordering a bin because from the square of the roof and type of roofing material we can get a rough calculation on weight. Roofing materials are very heavy and they vary from 200-250 lbs., per square for basic 3 tab asphalt shingles to over 900 lbs., per square for an old slate roof!
Dumpster Bins For Three-Tab Shingles:
- 10-20 Squares (1,000-2,000 Sq Ft.) = Our 12 Yard Dumpster
- 20-40+ Squares (2,000-4,000 Sq Ft.) = Our 20 Yard Dumpster
For very large roofs or where separation of materials is required we can supply multiple bins in both 12 or 20 yard sizes.
Dumpster Bins For Architectural Shingles:
- 10-20 Squares (1,000-2,000 Sq Ft.) = Our 12 Yard Dumpster (you might need two dumpsters)
- 20-40 Squares (2,000-4,000 Square Feet) = Our 20 Yard Dumpster
If the roof is 40 square+ with heavy, laminated architectural style shingles you’ll most likely need multiple 20 yard bins.
Dumpster Bins For Slate or Stone Shingles:
- 10-20 Squares (1,000-2,000 Sq Ft.) = Our 20 Yard Dumpster (you might need two dumpsters)
- 20-40 Squares (2,000-4,000 Square Feet) = Our 20 Yard Dumpster (you will need multiple dumpsters)
Slate or stone shingles are extremely heavy and can overload a dumpster bin very quickly, creating more work for everyone involved. If you are tearing off a slate or stone shingle roof it’s usually best to have multiple 20 yard bins on site.
